Dear Cllr Stephen Galloway
I am writing to urge you to agree 20 mph limits for York's residential streets, without humps. Please put this in the
Local Transport Plan.
Evidence from Portsmouth is that this policy reduces casualties by 22% which would save York a lot of money and is definitely cost effective.
I find fast traffic speeds intimidating. The fact that some drivers go at higher than safe speeds is a major factor in deciding how I travel around York. I would cycle and walk more often if roads were limited to 20 mph.
I want children to be able to walk and cycle safely, for roads to be quieter and less polluted and to get to know my neighbours better. 20 mph limits are good for York's health and economy, boosting tourism and property prices.
I urge you to listen to the result of the recent consultation. York people want 20 mph limits like Portsmouth, Oxford and Bristol. Many other UK cities are agreeing this and York should not be left behind places like Cambridge.
yours sincerely
